Delvine is a young Indigenous artist from Utopia which is a remote Central desert
community 270km North East of Alice Springs. She comes from a great line of highly
respected artists such as Jeannie Petyarre and Rosemary Petyarre. She started painting
at a very young age watching her mother and aunts practice.
Delvine primarily paints works which explore the Bush Yam Dreaming like her ancestors
before her. The bush yam has been a staple food and water source for the Anmatyerre
people whose language and practices live on today. The seeds of the bush yam that form
and scatter are collected and ground to make flour for damper. Delvine pays homage to
the bush yam and seed during ceremony and through her artistic expression.
A versatile and creative painter Delvine is quickly establishing herself as an upcoming
Indigenous artist. Her artworks have been widely exhibited and feature in a number of
private and public collections in both Australia and overseas.
