Cassidy Possum Tjapaltjarri Biography

Cassidy Possum Tjapaltjarri was born c.1923 on the Napperby station in the Northern Territory, the older brother of renowned artist Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri.

Cassidy was one of the most flamboyant figures in this small community, and in the media coverage of the Napperby artists' first exhibition in Sydney he was identified as leader and spokesman for the painting group, subsequently becoming an elder of the Amnatyerre tribe.

Cassidy's traditional country was Red Hill. Throughout his life he painted the Caterpillar and Goanna Dreamings for this area, along with the Bush Tucker Dreamings from his grandfather's country around the Mt Allan area.

Cassidy Possum Tjapaltjarri passed away in early 2006.
