Naiuwa Biography

Naiuwa family are of Butchula and Yiddinji Tribal Heritage. Based in far north Queensland, they create authentic didgeridoos from carefully chosen, naturally termite hollowed eucalyptus trees.
Naiuwa and his family work together to create a unique burnt and painted decorated. Every didgeridoo is dried out in the shed for a very long period of time and are carefully sealed inside and out to preserve the instrument. The didgeridoos are then tested for sound quality and if they don?t qualify, they would be discarded.
The artwork for each didgeridoo is chosen individually taking into account the shape, size and music tones. This allows each didgeridoo to have its own spiritual look and feel. The animals depicted on his didgeridoos are kangaroos, cassowary, snakes, turtles, goannas and barramundi. These animals are totems of various tribes.
The word Naiuwa means „river turtle? from which the head of the family takes his personal moto: “slow and steady will win the race” . The patience that earned him the nickname Naiuwa can be seen in all of their didgeridoos, each one taking up to eighteen months to produce.
The didgeridoo if properly respected will bring harmony to your family as it echoes through its sound the voices of peace and goodwill that mother earth has given to the wood.
