Gracie was born in the midst of the Western Desert Painting movement in Papunya in 1973. She was moved to the Warakurna to commence her schooling as a young girl.
Gracie began painting in 2004 and was taught by her mother Nyungawarra Ward and her father George Ward Tjangurrayi who is also a well known painter. Gracie adopted her fathers Tingari painting style and earthy colour palette.
Since 2009 Gracie began to paint her Grandmothers country and her works transformed into a saturation of colour and rich, textual dots spread across the canvas.
Today her works are infused with rich, deep purples, reds and oranges while touches of lime green, yellow or pastel blue brighten and illuminate these incredible works. She is known as one of the most famous artists of the modern generation and her works are well sought after. Gracie has two sons and lives between Warakurna and Alice Springs.
