Audrey was born in Yuendumu in c.1950 and is a Warlpiri woman. She has never left her homelands of Yuendumu, attending the local primary school and eventually raising her family there.
She started painting in 1986 following in her mother and father’s footsteps as both were well established artists, as were most of her family. Her main subject is bush tucker which is related to Women’s Dreaming Stories and she often goes out with the other women of her family gathering bush tucker as her ancestors did throughout the years.
Audrey is a much respected elder and teaches the younger generation all about the Dreaming stories that she is custodian to. She is also known for work as a producer for Tracey Moffatt’s film Night Cries: A Rural Tragedy (MIFF1989) and Safina Uberoi’s My Mother India (MIFF 2001).
