Khatija Nampijinpa Possum Biography

Born in Alice Springs on the 3rd of October 1989 to Michelle Possum Nungurrayi and Heath Ramzan Tjangala. Khatija is the third generation of great artists in her family bloodline, the most renown being Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, known for being one of the great pioneers of the contemporary Indigenous art movement.

Her language group is Luritja/Arrernte and her tribe is Pitjantjatjara/Papunya/Anmatyerre.

Khatija’s mother and aunt (Gabriella Possum) were taught to paint by Clifford Possum and Khatija remembers watching, listening and learning all of the traditional stories told to her by her mother and grandfather and carries the stories to the next generation. There are additional women’s stories that Khatija also paints, relating to her Mother’s Country.

She now resides in Victoria with her own family and she is keeping her cultural heritage strong by passing her knowledge and tradition down to her children.
