This work depicts the seeds of the bush yam plant that the Anmatyerre people of Central Australia would depend on as a stable food source. The yam plant is a very significant totem for many Utopian women and they celebrate this plant in their ceremonies.
The seeds which are depicted by the small white dotting were usually collected and ground into a paste to make damper (bread).
The seeds fall from the the yam plant and are buried under the sand so locating the seeds was something the women knew by locating a certain species of ant that also ate the seeds. The ants would eat some of the seeds discarding most of them in a pile. This is where the women would collect the seeds from.
