Hunting In My Country, 2011

Acrylic on linen
198 x 78 cm
78 x 31 in

As a highly respected Elder of Utopia, Cowboy is a senior custodian for the Bush Turkey and Goanna Ancestors and the hunting stories attached to said Dreaming's.

These works are depicted by his use of colours he connects the home country to and of geometric shapes outlined in dots. These represent the tracks of the Bush Turkey and Goanna's (and sometimes emu) roaming across the bushland and through the soakages in the Atnwengerrp country of Utopia in Central Australia as they search for tucker. The symbols that look like the number 7, are in fact the hunting boomerangs known as '7's' They are thrown at the targeted animal to stun it. Other symbols are representative of spears, rocks, and the hills of the region.
