This painting represent my Great Nanna Topsy Smith travels from Arltunga to Alice Springs. When her welsh miner husband passed away, she decided to travel from Arltunga to Alice Springs. Arltunga is about 125 kilometres from Alice Springs. She travelled with seven children, herd of goats and also pregnant with my poppa. When she arrived in Alice Springs, the local police officer knew her husband and allowed her to open the first home for the stolen generation. At this period all the children were being taken away. There is a hostel today named after her in Alice Springs. If you type her name into google search engine, you will see she is in the National Pioneer Women’s Hall of fame, also so much more information.
