Sand Goanna, 2019

Acrylic on canvas
100 x 100 cm
39 x 39 in

The sand Goanna is camouflaged in its environment. Being a reptile it is cold blooded so it lays its eggs underground for the heat of the sun to hatch them. The bottom of the painting shows the large boulders. The top of the painting represents the sandy area. The footprints show our people moving around the land from campsite to campsite to protect the land. The U shapes at the top are the women sitting around the fire with their coolamons. The large hand above the Goanna belongs to my grandson Jordan. The little hand below is his daughters, my great grand daughter Alexis. The hand signs show we belong to this land. The next generation of our peoples future. Colin J Jones.
